Ivan Cornejo Tour 2055

Tools: Adobe Photoshop & Photography

Project Brief
Design a commemorative poster for a current artist to use to promote their retrospective exhibition/performance/tour in the year 2055, using speculative design (designing what future trends will look like).

Artist Context
Ivan Cornejo is a Mexican-American singer and songwriter. His songs evoke deep emotions on topics such as love and heartbreak. Since 2024, he has started to rise in popularity around the world in the Spanish-speaking market.

Research
My research included looking at past music and design trends every 40 years. I discovered that every 40 years, we go back to trends from the past in design and in pop culture. I also looked at other famous Mexican-American artists, such as Selena Quintanilla, who started off singing in Spanish and then moved to English. Other big Latino artists like Bad Bunny will continue to have success, which will allow other Spanish-speaking artists to have bigger opportunities. I also found that speculations indicate 30% of the US population will speak Spanish and English by the year 2055. I speculated that Ivan Cornejo will eventually break into the English market, and then, after 30 years, he will have a retirement tour where he will perform his songs in Spanish again.

Process
I wanted to replicate his marketing approach, which strictly uses photography with deep and dramatic lighting. I set up my own photoshoot with myself as the model. I wanted to make it look like a faded memory and mysterious, like his other photos. I kept the style that’s popular right now, as I speculated that these design trends will repeat themselves. I used a lot of textures to get a vintage look on the final poster.

Reflection
Through this project, I learned the process of creating my own poster elements myself. I used my resources instead of using an image from the internet. The speculating process was very eye-opening after discovering that trends repeat themselves about every 40 years. My poster is on brand for Ivan Cornejo, and it evokes his deep and dramatic musical sound.
