Nativa Single-Origin Coffee

Tools: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Google Gemini AI

Project Brief
This project explores how design can push CPG packaging toward plastic-free solutions. With new sustainable materials emerging, the focus was on creating packaging that eliminates petroleum-based plastics while still feeling familiar and intuitive for consumers. By considering real user behavior and using empathy-driven decision-making, the project aims to make environmentally responsible choices easy, appealing, and practical through thoughtful design.

Brand Goal
Nativa Coffee is a luxury single-origin whole bean coffee brand that prioritizes quality and unique taste. Each coffee is not only sourced from unique coffee farms but also uses plastic-free materials for packaging, including a plant-based bag.

Research
My research included looking at the current market for whole bean coffee, coffee packaging manufacturers, which regions make the best coffee, and plant-based materials. Research revealed there’s a way to manufacture 100% plastic-free coffee bags that are fully compostable, which shaped the direction of my design. Additional research was done for each blend of coffee to ensure each region was represented respectfully and to showcase their cultures.

Process
I tried different fonts for the logotype that best fit my brand and tried different color palettes. I focused on choosing minimalistic design choices to make it easier for the viewer to see all the important information. Different layouts were used on the front and back of the packaging until a final layout was chosen. Generative AI was used for mockups and social media ads.

Reflection
Through this project, I learned the process of creating a brand and product from scratch. I used real marketing processes and strategies to ensure an authentic product. It helped me understand the decisions that influence a final design in consumer packaged goods.
